Unlike the U.S. Open or The Open Championship which have fixed fields of 156 players, the Masters has no set field size. Augusta National invites every player who meets at least one of its qualifying criteria, so the field varies each year depending on how many players qualify and how much overlap exists between categories.
Players qualifying through multiple categories appear under their first listed pathway. Look for “Also:” tags showing additional qualifying paths.
Augusta National expanded its qualifying criteria from 20 to 26 categories starting with the 2026 Masters, adding six national open champion invitations. The same 26 pathways apply for the 2027 field — here is every route to an invitation.
All former Masters champions receive a lifetime invitation to compete. Many past champions beyond competitive age choose not to play but remain eligible. Rory McIlroy returns as defending champion after his back-to-back 2025 and 2026 wins.

Winners of The Players Championship from the last three years are invited. The 2027 Players (March 2027) winner will round out the list.
The current Olympic gold medalist in men's golf is invited for one year. VACANT for 2027 — no Olympic golf event between the 2025 expiry of the Paris exemption and Los Angeles 2028.
The reigning U.S. Amateur champion (7-A) and runner-up (7-B) are invited, provided they remain amateur. The 2026 U.S. Amateur (mid-August 2026) will set the 2027 invites.

A VPN lets you access all US-only streams — including the free masters.com coverage, ESPN+, Amazon Prime Video, and more — from anywhere in the world.
How it works (2 minutes to set up):
What is a VPN?
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) changes your IP address so websites and apps think you're in a different country. Streaming services see a US IP and give you full access to US content. Works on all your devices — phone, tablet, laptop — and you can share the connection to a TV.
Works on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Fire TV, and more. Cancel anytime.
Qualifying for the 91st Masters is just beginning. So far 31 players are exempt — past champions plus the 5-year exemption holders for recent major and Players Championship wins. The field fills out across the 2026 season and through the OWGR top-50 cutoff in late March 2027.
Rory McIlroy returns as defending champion after winning back-to-back Masters in 2025 and 2026 — the first player to win consecutive green jackets since Tiger Woods (2001-02) and Nick Faldo (1989-90).
The 91st Masters Tournament will be held April 8-11, 2027 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Practice rounds begin April 5; the Par 3 Contest is Wednesday April 7.
Players qualify through 26 different criteria including: being a past champion (lifetime), winning a major in the last 5 years, finishing in the top 12 at the previous Masters, winning a PGA Tour full-point event, qualifying for the Tour Championship, being ranked in the OWGR Top 50, winning a designated national open (Scottish, Spanish, Japan, Hong Kong, Australian, or South African), or winning an amateur championship.
The final qualifying snapshot is the OWGR Top 50 published the week before the Masters — that is, the ranking released ~March 29, 2027. Players inside the OWGR top 50 at that point earn an invitation if they aren't already exempt.
In the US, Amazon Prime Video and ESPN cover Rounds 1-2, while Paramount+ and CBS cover Rounds 3-4. In the UK, Sky Sports Golf airs all four rounds. The best option is masters.com or the Masters app, which offers free Every Shot Live tracking, Featured Groups, Amen Corner, and dedicated hole streams. A VPN may be needed for masters.com streams from outside the US.
