About Spencer Tibbits

Spencer Tibbits is a professional golfer from Vancouver, Washington. A three-time Washington high school state champion at Fort Vancouver High School, he went on to play four seasons at Oregon State University, where he led the Beavers in scoring average in each of his first three years and posted one of the lowest career scoring averages in program history. As an amateur he reached the round of 32 at the 2020 U.S. Amateur and qualified for the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach following his sophomore season.

Tibbits turned professional in 2021 after his college career and has since competed primarily through the developmental and qualifying ranks, including multiple stages of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School and open qualifiers. He has not yet secured a full PGA Tour card and remains based out of the Pacific Northwest.

For the 2026 U.S. Open, Tibbits advanced through local qualifying and reached final qualifying at the Creswell, Oregon site. There he tied for the final spot and was forced into a sudden-death playoff against PGA Tour veteran Andrew Putnam; after six extra holes on the first evening were halted by darkness, the two returned the next morning and Putnam claimed the last automatic berth on the ninth playoff hole, leaving Tibbits as first alternate.

On June 15, 2026, the USGA added five players from the alternate list to complete the 156-man field, and Tibbits was among them. The promotion gives him a return to the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, where the championship is played June 18-21, 2026 — his second appearance in the event and his first in five years.
