About Jack Schoenberger

Jack Schoenberger is an American amateur golfer who earned a place in the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, and a graduate of Kings Ridge Christian School, he was ranked the No. 7 junior in Georgia in the class of 2022 and was a two-time First-Team All-State selection. He began his college career at Belmont University, where he was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2022-23 and posted the third-lowest single-season scoring average in program history (70.5) as a sophomore.

Schoenberger transferred to the University of Kentucky for his final two seasons. Across his Wildcats career he made 23 starts with a 72.17 scoring average, recorded 33 rounds at par or better, and collected ten top-20 and six top-10 finishes while playing in two NCAA Regional Championships. As a junior in 2024-25 he led Kentucky in scoring average (71.97), with a season-best tie for fourth at the Mason Rudolph Championship, and he served as team captain in his senior year as the Wildcats won two team events.

His route to the U.S. Open came through qualifying. At local qualifying at Canongate-on-White Oak in Newnan, Georgia, he tied for medalist honors with a 7-under 63. He advanced to final qualifying at Hawks Ridge Golf Club, where rounds of 69 and 65 left him at 10 under par and tied for sixth, securing a first-alternate position after a playoff over Germany's Alexander Herrmann.

On the Sunday night before the championship, Schoenberger received word that he had been added to the 156-player field as one of five alternates promoted from final qualifying, alongside Hennie Du Plessis, Spencer Tibbits, Bryan Lee and Harry Higgs. The U.S. Open marks his first appearance in a major championship.
