Born in the Chicago area (Lake Forest, Illinois) and raised in Pinehurst after his family relocated when he was about 12, he attended Vanderbilt University, where he became one of the program's most accomplished players. He reached a career-high of No. 7 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and represented the United States in the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup.

After finishing near the top of the 2024-25 PGA Tour University ranking, Van Paris turned professional in 2025 and earned a Korn Ferry Tour card, making his pro debut at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.
